G2 Esports has made an impactful move into the world of Dota 2 through a strategic partnership with Invictus Gaming IG, the renowned Chinese esports organization.
The joint venture between G2 and IG brings forth the new entity, G2.iG, which marks G2's foray into the highly competitive Dota 2 arena for the first time. The debut team will be making its grand entrance at the upcoming ESL One Kuala Lumpur tournament, scheduled to commence next week with a substantial prize pool of $1 million.
This collaboration presents an incredible opportunity for both parties: G2 expands its global footprint by establishing a strong presence in China and exploring Dota 2 market potential, while IG gets access to international exposure through the extensive G2 fan base.
Alban Dechelotte, CEO of G2 Esports, expressed his enthusiasm about this partnership stating that it comes at an incredibly exciting time for the organization as they push further into global expansion.
We could not have found a better partner in iG, Dechelotte sd, We are eager to commence our alliance with them and build our presence in China. It’s been long overdue for us to field a local team catering to our significant Chinese fanbase.
China has consistently stood out as a key market for G2 since its inception, but until now, it's been challenging to find the right fit. With this partnership, leveraging IG's prestigious accomplishments including the World championship trophy and Aegis, both entities are poised to create a formidable team that represents the unique G2 ethos.
This alliance is not just about geographic expansion; it’s also an opportunity for G2 to diversify its gaming portfolio by entering Dota 2. The timing seems perfect as this comes after significant investments in other top-tier esports games such as Minnesota R?kkr's Call of Duty and an ongoing presence in the world of competitive gaming.
